Practical technical systems for teams that need tools that hold up in the real world.

I help research, public-sector, and operations teams turn messy requirements into usable applications, web interfaces, databases, automation, networked equipment, sensor/edge systems, physical prototypes, and documentation — with a focus on systems people can actually maintain.

Consulting focus

Broad technical help for real operational problems.

My strongest work is connecting the pieces: understanding the workflow, designing the interface, structuring the data, setting up the network or device layer, prototyping physical parts/enclosures when needed, and making the system understandable for the people who rely on it.

01

Low-code and web application design

Design practical internal tools, forms, portals, and user interfaces with PowerApps, Dataverse, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and related low-code or web technologies.

Example proof: research intake and scientific database portal work built around structured forms, usable interfaces, and reporting-ready data.

02

Database and information architecture

Turn raw information, scattered tables, and informal records into usable databases with clear structure, relationships, naming, and future reporting paths.

03

Workflow automation and reporting readiness

Replace repetitive manual steps with reliable automations, data movement, validation, approvals, and foundations for dashboards or operational reporting.

04

Networks, VPNs, and connected equipment

Support practical network setups, troubleshooting, VPN access, field monitoring connectivity, and small-office or research-station infrastructure.

05

Edge computing and sensor systems

Apply microcontrollers, sensors, single-board computers, programming, physics, and networking knowledge to monitoring, automation, and smart connected systems.

06

CAD, 3D design, and physical prototyping

Design and 3D print custom parts, mounts, and enclosures for electronics, microcontroller, sensor, and small-device builds.

07

Documentation and training

Create clear materials, explain systems to non-technical users, support adoption, and help teams build confidence with new tools.

Proof points

Specific examples behind the broader technical range.

Low-code and web-based workflow tools

Problem
Research and operational workflows needed cleaner intake, validation, and downstream data structure.
Work
Designed Polar research intake interfaces using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, and worked with Power Platform/Dataverse concepts.
Result
More structured intake, clearer user experience, automation paths, and reporting-ready data.

Database and information architecture

Problem
Useful information was spread across raw records, scattered tables, and inconsistent formats.
Work
Organized Polar intake data and Northern Contaminants Program data into more usable database structures.
Result
Better foundations for access, search, management, reporting, and future analysis.

Networks, VPNs, and field-connected equipment

Problem
Research and home environments needed practical, reliable connectivity and secure access.
Work
Managed research-station networking using Ubiquiti and Cisco, built TP-Link home setups, configured OpenVPN/Tailscale-style access, and guided field monitoring deployments.
Result
More dependable network access for people, systems, and monitoring equipment.

Edge computing, sensors, and physical prototypes

Problem
Small connected systems often need software, electronics, networking, and physical enclosure work to fit together.
Work
Built microcontroller, sensor, single-board computer, smart-home, CAD/3D design, and 3D-printed parts/enclosure projects.
Result
Transferable capability for monitoring, automation, edge-computing, and custom connected-device problems.

Teaching and community technology

Problem
Technical skills and systems only matter when people can understand and use them.
Work
Taught introductory computing at Nunavut Arctic College and ran Digital Dojo, a youth literacy and technology program.
Result
Recognized with a Community Engagement Award and strengthened practical training, curriculum, and supervision experience.
Working style

Grounded, maintainable, and user-aware.

Good systems are not just technically correct. They have to fit the people, constraints, equipment, data, and maintenance reality around them.

Start with the workflow

Clarify who does what, what data is needed, where the process breaks, and what a better system has to support.

Build the right-sized tool

Use low-code, web tools, databases, network equipment, or edge devices when they fit — and avoid overbuilding systems that a team cannot maintain.

Leave things understandable

Document decisions, explain tradeoffs, train users, and design systems that are easier to troubleshoot later.
